Troubled energy giant British Gas has announced large cuts in the price of it’s energy. From March 12th, customers on standard tariffs will see their gas costs cut by 17%, while electricity bills will be cut by 11%.
New figures show that the British Gas customer leak continues apace, with the energy giant losing another 4 million customers in 2006.
The owners of British Gas have warned of possible winter fuel shortages, saying that supplies are set to be ‘uncertain’.
The bills of British Gas customers will continue to spiral upwards with the announcement of yet another hefty price hike.
British Gas owner Centrica has confirmed that the company has lost a further 350,000 customers since the start of the year, as the company’s price rises received large amounts of bad publicity.
British Gas has lost its battle with rival Scottish Power over advertisements that implied customers wouldn’t benefit by switching suppliers, as prices were rising at all companies and not just British Gas. (more…)
March 1st will see the latest in British Gas’ series of price rises, this time by a whopping 22%, affecting both gas and electricity tariffs.
More than 16 million energy consumers will be hit with even bigger gas and electricity bills following a decision by British Gas to increase tariffs by 14.2%.
