4m Customers Leave British Gas

British Gas, Thursday, January 18th, 2007

New figures show that the British Gas customer leak continues apace, with the energy giant losing another 4 million customers in 2006.

Such is the extent of the company’s loss of customers that it now has under 50% of the market for the first time - a dramatic fall off for the once-dominant energy supplier.

The main reason for customers switching is said to be the soaring cost of gas and electrcvity over the last couple of years, with the average energy bill now costing more than £1,000 a year.

Scottish & Southern Energy appears to be the main winner of the energy wars, with 800,000 new customers over the same period.
